Adobe announced the change today on its Photoshop blog, hinting that the new name better represents broader plans the company has in store:
Revel means to take great pleasure or delight…and that’s what we hope to do in the future as we continue to add more functionality and fun to the app. In the future, you can expect we will also be able to offer additional photography solutions on the newly named Adobe Revel platform
Also new today is the release of Revel 1.1, which adds the ability to automatically import photos from an iOS device’s camera, whether shot with the built-in camera app or a third-party app, Adobe said. The feature is enabled through the settings menu.
And Revel 1.1 can export photos to Flickr.
One last Revel tidbit: Adobe is tying the service in with other products–in this case, the Lightroom 4 beta released Tuesday night.
“You can bring images from the Lightroom catalog into the Revel ecosystem. We’ve got the export capability,” said Tom Hogarty, Lightroom’s principal product manager. He also added of the name change, that the name Carousel “was closely tied to the 1.0 feature set but not aligned with the long-term vision of the product.”
